Final Exam Season Tips and Tricks

Heading into final exams season can seem very overwhelming and stressful. With many projects, exams, and the end of courses coming up, there’s always a lot to do, and it can seem difficult to tackle everything.

Over my time at university, I have had my fair share of cramming and unsuccessful end-of-term planning so I’m here to share all the tips and tricks that I wish I had known way earlier on in my studies.

Time Management

My #1 tip when it comes to this, is to lay out everything that needs to be done and ensure that you are leaving enough time to properly tackle each and every project or task. Doing this will prevent the back-up of cramming all your work and assignments into one day.

With this, I recommend also gauging your level of understanding in your courses to properly know how much time you will need to spend studying on each subject. This way, you can plan accordingly, and when it’s the night before the exam, you will feel prepared and a lot less stressed which will also help prevent any type of cramming prior to your examination.

Create a Study Schedule

This method goes hand-in-hand with time management. Once you know what assignments and tasks need to be done or how much studying you have to do, you can block out certain parts of your day, and give yourself deadlines to help aid the process and increase your motivation.

My favourite part of this tip is that you can break everything up into chunks so that it’s more manageable. Instead of heading into a study period with the mindset of getting as much covered as possible, you can start small, even if the task happens to be reading over one chapter or reviewing one set of lecture slides. Breaking it up into smaller sections helps you learn the material better and helps you feel less overwhelmed which ultimately leads to more productive study sessions, and a better understanding of the material.

Prioritize YOU

Lastly, make sure you take time for yourself. We all know how challenging exam time is for everyone and it is so important to make sure you’re taking care of yourself. Go enjoy the nice weather and spend time with your friends; you will have a way more successful wrap-up to your year if you make sure you’re the first priority. By ensuring that you’re in a healthy place, all the studying and working hard will come easily and you will be more successful than ever with all your final tasks.

Good luck on your exams and congratulations for making it through the school year! We can’t wait to see you all again in the fall!
