Healing in Colour

Healing in Colour features BIPOC therapists all over Canada who understand the lived experiences of the BIPOC community. They provide a directory of BIPOC therapists who strive to help and support the individual and collective healing of the BIPOC community. All associated BIPOC therapists utilize anti-oppressive values in their practice. Their values are “pro-queer, pro-trans, pro-sex worker, pro-Black, pro-Indigenous, and anti-colonial”. In addition, through the allied professional’s tab, you can browse for BIPOC professionals from a variety of expertise ranging from yoga teachers to chiropractors to support your holistic care.

Women’s Health Issues and Dangers

Women face a unique set of health challenges and this resource provides a guide to the major health issues that women face. It includes the common treatment for these conditions, potential causes of these issues, and the risks that certain drugs/products pose to women.


Mental Health during COVID-19

This resource collates a variety of mental health resources specific to increased anxiety or concerns due to COVID-19, providing links to various resources ranging from ways to recognize stress to helpful steps to reduce feelings of anxiety or worry caused by the pandemic. These support services can be accessed online or by phone. Additionally, there are free counselling resources for UBC students and virtual diagnostic resources.

Wellness Together Canada

Wellness Together Canada provides free mental health online assessments and connects you to virtual mental health resources or counselling. This service is available globally to Canadians on a 24/7 basis. Free support services include immediate text support, information about common mental health issues, self-directed or coached mental wellness programs, monitored communities of support, and individual counselling. 

Kids Help Phone

A texting option for Indigenous youth and adults to connect with a First Nations, Metis or Inuit crisis responder.

Text the words “ First Nations” or “Metis” or “Inuit” and you will be connected to a crisis responder from your nation if one is available.

Liberate

An app is designed to support Black folks on their path to healing by naming and offering resources for common cultural experiences, like internalized racism and micro-aggressions. Curated content from 40+ BIPOC teachers with a diverse background in lineage, perspective and approach, so that everyone can find a practice in their voice.

Available as free or as subscription.

Available for both iOS and Android.

UBC Counselling Services

UBC Counselling Services can be contacted at  604-822-3811 to schedule an appointment over the phone. Drop-in 45-minute virtual counselling appointments are goal-directed and help identify coping strategies. Wellness Advising appointments are 15 to 20 minutes long and help connect individuals to appropriate resources through assessment and wellness planning. All Wellness Advisors are registered clinical counsellors. 

Crisis Centre BC

Crisis Centre BC works with those who are feeling hopeless or at risk of harm where you can chat with a crisis responder at any time. If you or someone you know is experiencing thoughts of suicide please call 1-800-SUICIDE (1-800-784-2433) for immediate support anywhere in BC. The Mental Health Support Line can be reached at 310-6789. Both of these phone lines are available in over 140 languages. Support can also be accessed regionally at the following numbers; the Vancouver Coastal Regional Distress Line can be reached at 604-873-3311 and the Sunshine Coast/Sea to Sky phone line can be reached at

1-866-661-3311.

Asian Mental Health Project

Asian Mental Health Project is curated towards Asian’s and the pervasive cultural stigma that often discourages members of the community from receiving the help they need. They aims to dispel the belief that struggling with mental health illness is a weakness through providing resources that are accessible to all.

 

Here2Talk

Here2Talk connects students currently registered in a B.C post-secondary institution to free confidential counselling and community referral services virtually through the web, app, or phone. Through the app, you can browse mental wellness resources, start a live chat, or start a call with a counsellor without a prior appointment. Here2Talk provides support for a variety of concerns including family tensions, depression, finding a balance between personal and academic interests, and anxiety.

Tao Self-Help

Tao Self-Help is an online resource equipped with tools for stress, relationship problems, and substance use. UBC students can register for free by using their UBC email. Tao Self-Help enables individuals to manage their own emotional well-being, and participate in resilience training. These resources can be used as individual modules for focused challenges or as a set of 6-7 modules with interactive activities for a deeper analysis of an area of concern. In addition, there are practice tools to accompany the educational modules, a mindfulness library, and a progress tracker.

Tulip Hill Recovery

A thoroughly curated website containing resources in the form of websites, podcasts, videos, and other forms of media as well as extensive information for Latinx College Students.

Empower Me

Empower Me services are accessible by phone 24/7 in North America at 1-844-741-6389 for immediate crisis support from a trained counsellor. Services are available globally through the app. Empower Me services are available to students at the UBC Vancouver campus in-person, by phone, video-counselling or e-counselling. Empower Me services are confidential, multilingual, culturally sensitive, gender, and faith inclusive.

MindHealth BC

MindHealth BC provides an online assessment in order to direct individuals to the resources they need to support their mental health. Additionally, there is a screening quiz that can help uncover any mental health and substance use challenges you may be struggling with in order to connect you to the local support options curated by a panel of experts. Available resources include interactive self-help programs and local in-person services.  MindHealth BC provides information on mental health and substance use, self-help resources and online programs, local support groups for patients and loved ones, and community health services for individual needs.
